So let me be clear - this is 5 star work by John Byrne (and Marv Wolfman and Jerry Ordway). I'm giving it only 1 star in protest to DC for ripping us off and denying us the treatment this work deserves in a true Omnibus edition. John Byrne revitalized Superman and made him relevant again. His concepts and ideas are still being used 30 plus years later. How does this not get the larger size deluxe omnibus treatment? Jonah Hex, Bronze Age Robin back-up stories that frankly are pretty weak get the omnibus treatment - but this game changing take on Superman gets relegated to an undersized meh hardcover series? Really? Shame on you DC. Shame on you. In a world where we need Superman and what he stands for now more than ever we get this low rent reprint. Quite frankly not only is it a poor decision creatively but it's a poor decision business wise. If you made money on omnibus editions of stuff like the aforementioned Jonah Hex, Robin, House of Secrets and a host of other less popular titles what were you thinking not cashing in on Superman properly with Omnibus editions of Superman by one of comicdom's most prolific and popular comic creators since Lee, Kirby and Ditko? Byrne is responsible for some of the best and most popular comic stories during the Bronze and Dark Ages (as they are such named by the comic industry). From the 70s all the way into the 90s putting Byrne on a book guaranteed a massive sales boost for the title he was taking over. His work on Superman deserves much better treatment and would easily be a top seller in the omnibus format giving fans his beautiful artwork in a larger size and superior quality. What kills me is even after buying these I'd still gladly shell out the cash if DC comes to their senses and finally releases this material in the larger omnibus format. DC - the fans deserve better. Superman deserves better. Too bad you sabotaged these releases like you were Lex Luthor himself.
